Patagonia Under Siege.
Oxes are held together before a day`s work.
In Chile`s western Patagonia the Balseros (boatmen) of the Baker river are in danger of loosing it`s ways of work as the last families that live on logging (only dead trees logging permitted by law) move their production using the river as a highway and natural landscape are threaten by the "Hydroaysen Project", a $3 billion project which plans to build five dams in Patagonia rivers, two of them in the Baker river, flooding thousands of hectares and building a 3.000 km. long transmission line which will send energy to the huge northern Chilean mining industry destroying one of the world most pristine and untouched natural areas of the planet. As South America holds one of the worlds biggest water resources of the planet first world companies such as the Italian ENEL, the Spanish Endesa, among others want to put their hands on them. By corporate lobbing they promote state corruption, divide communities and lie to citizens as new clean energy generating ways are taking the lead around the globe they promote old, destructive and obsolete energy generating ways.
